As summer temperatures continue to climb across Bucks County, Bucks County Transport (BCT) wants to remind all passengers and community members about the importance of heat safety, especially when traveling.
Tips for Passengers During Hot Weather
Before Your Trip:
- Stay hydrated by drinking water before and during your journey
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
- Bring a water bottle for longer trips
- If you take medications, ensure they’re stored properly and haven’t been exposed to extreme heat
During Your Ride:
- If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or overheated, immediately inform your driver
Recognizing Heat-Related Illness
Be aware of the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke:
- Heavy sweating or stopped sweating
- Weakness or fatigue
- Dizziness or confusion
- Nausea or vomiting
- Rapid heartbeat
If you or a fellow passenger experiences these symptoms, notify the driver immediately.
Vehicle Safety Reminders
Never leave personal items, medications, or anything temperature-sensitive in parked vehicles during hot weather. Interior temperatures can reach dangerous levels within minutes, even with windows cracked.
