April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month

As we recognize April as Distracted Driver Awareness Month, Bucks County Transport acknowledges the importance of transportation safety for all road users.

Understanding Distracted Driving
Distracted driving affects roadways nationwide. In 2022, distracted driving was linked to 3,308 fatalities across the country. Common distractions include cell phone use, adjusting vehicle controls, and various other activities that divert attention from driving.

For anyone operating a vehicle, maintaining focus on the road is essential for responding to changing traffic conditions and ensuring safe travel.

Safety Practices

Transportation safety involves:

  • Completing any necessary communications when the vehicle is not in motion
  • Setting up navigation systems before beginning trips
  • Maintaining awareness of surroundings at all times

Community Awareness
During April 10-14, there may be increased law enforcement presence on roadways as part of the national campaign “Put the Phone Away or Pay.” This campaign highlights both safety concerns and potential consequences associated with distracted driving.

Transportation safety is important to everyone in our community. This Distracted Driving Awareness Month serves as a helpful reminder about the importance of attentive driving practices.
